- Samuel Jones migrated from Målilla to Öland in 1856 (age 20). He apprenticed for a year in Stockholm as a shoemaker (1861-1862 living at Mäster Samuelsgatan, St Klara församling, Nöramalm, Stockholm, now across the street from City Åhlens department store and a block away from the church). He received certification as a journeyman in Borgholm, emigrated and then worked in Jamestown, New York. In Jamestown, he established a shop at 10 East 2nd Street.
- Immigration. Samuel Johan Otto Johansson (30), Anna Maja Ekholm (30) and son Johan Frederik (22 months) registered for their exit papers 1 May 1866 in their parish of Borgholm on the island of Öland. They crossed the strait from Borghom to Kalmar and then sailed to Hamburg, Germany. There they were registered in the emigration list (Auswandererlisten) as Saml, Anna, and Johan Johansson. They sailed 26 May 1866 from Hamburg on the steamship SS. Allemania and arrived 11 June 1866 in New York. The SS. Allemania accommodated 60 passengers in First Class, 100 in Second Class, and 600 in Steerage with a crew of 90. It was a new ship whose maiden voyage was 17 September 1865 from Hamburg-Southampton-New York. The ship manifest registered at Castlegarden listed them as Sam., Anna, and Joh. Johannsen.
- Samuel Jones died seventeen years after arriving in Jamestown at age 47 of Brights Disease (kidney failure, acute or chronic nephritis). Their oldest son, John, was 19 years old at the time of Samuel's death, his youngest son, George, was 4 years old.
- Anna Jones worked as a wash woman after the death of her husband. She lived at first in the same section of Jamestown (moving from Clinton to Lincoln Street) and then purchased a house along the outlet of Chautauqua Lake at 231 Steele Street.

Samuel Johan Otto Jonsson had a daughter Matilda before he wedded his wife. That daughter was my great grandmother.
